Unemployment reported by CNN
They say its rough out there for the unemployed between 18 and 24. The joblessness statistic for our demographic is double the national average of 8%.
CNN gave me this chilling fact as I finished my bowl of Lucky charms this morning and browsed the classifieds. They stressed that our demographic need experience to build our resumes, but we are competing against others who already have experience also in the job market. Companies cannot afford to hire non experienced workers due to the economy. Basically it means we’re SOL.
Obama needs to get creative about this. Baltimore is the first city so far to have a youth employment program because they believe that investing in our futures will do for a better economy in the long run. That’s a bright idea. 7000 people applied for the program and a little over 5000 were given jobs.
It’s hard not to lose hope. Especially hearing this depressing story on the news, I feel like garbage.
They say get a degree.
They say intern.
They say work hard.
What they didn’t say was that it is futile.
We have to press on because the government doesn’t give a flying shit about us. Only we can help ourselves.
